SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury volleyball opened a three-match home stand in style Friday evening, extending its Great Lakes Valley Conference win streak to four with a four-set victory (25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20) over Truman State at O'Reilly Family Event Center.
The Panthers (16-6, 6-2 GLVC) claimed narrow wins in the first two sets to establish control of the match, then -- after Truman (10-12, 4-5 GLVC) rallied to take the third stanza -- withstood a stiff challenge from the Bulldogs in the fourth to sew up the victory with a 25-20 decision.
The duo of Abby Renshaw and Skylar Hilton led the Drury attack, combining for 31 kills and 10 blocks in the victory. Renshaw logged her seventh double-double of the season with 19 kills and 7 digs, while Hilton hit .407 while narrowly missing a triple-double with 12 kills, eight blocks and eight digs for the Panthers. Jacy Bray spearheaded the DU offense, totaling 46 assists and 23 digs for her 12th double-double of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Led by Hilton's four kills and .500 attack percentage, Drury hit .260 as a team in the opening set.
- The Panthers overcame an early 4-2 deficit with a 6-0 spurt that put them in front to stay; DU led by as many as nine points (21-12) thanks to a 19-8 scoring run, with Hilton and Chaney Barth each registering three kills during the critical stretch.
- Drury was in control of the second set from start to finish, with Hilton racking up three early kills to help stake the Panthers to a 5-1 lead.
- The home club would extend the margin to eight points (16-8), as Hilton tallied five kills while hitting .556, and Renshaw added four kills in the 25-22 DU victory.
- The Panthers appeared poised to run away with the third set as well after winning nine of the first 10 points; Renshaw poured home six more kills in the set, as DU built another nine-point advantage with its 13-4 start.
- Drury led 18-11 following a Truman attack error, but mounted one final push just in time to close the gap and stave off defeat.
- The Bulldogs responded with a 14-3 run to close the set, pulling even at 20-20 on an Ella Diercks kill, before winning five of the final six points in the 25-21 decision.
- The Panthers never trailed in the fourth set, grabbing control with a 6-1 run early, then withstanding several late charges by the Bulldogs.
- DU built a 16-11 lead behind Renshaw's six kills in the set, only to see Truman win five of the next six points to close to within a point.
- The Bulldogs battled back to even the score at 18-18, but back-to-back kills by Gracie Kimrey fueled a 3-0 spurt that put Drury on top for good.
- Renshaw capped her night with a pair of key kills down the stretch, including the clincher at 24-20 off of Bray's 46th helper of the match.

QUOTABLE
"We did a good job at the beginning of sets in coming out aggressively and executing like we needed to," Drury head coach Kelly Richardson said. "Where we need to continue to stay disciplined is, no matter what the spread is, keeping that consistency, from zero to 25. We received great production out of a number of players and we continue to see a balanced offensive attack and defensive efforts from multiple players. As long as we continue to get production from multiple players we will continue to see positive results."
UP NEXT
Drury will take aim at a fifth straight conferecne victory when it hosts Upper Iowa for a 3 p.m., GLVC matchup Saturday (Oct. 24) at O'Reilly Family Event Center.
