Volleyball Rolls to Fifth Straight GLVC Victory With Sweep of Upper Iowa

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Powered by balanced production from a deep cast of contributors, Drury volleyball stretched its Great Lakes Valley Conference win streak to five matches with a straight-set victory (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) over Upper Iowa Saturday afternoon at O'Reilly Family Event Center.

The Panthers (17-6, 7-2 GLVC) used a 12-1 scoring run to open up an 11-point lead in the opening set, then hit a blistering .400 as a team in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Drury rallied from an early two-point deficit in the third, outscoring the Peacocks (11-11, 4-6 GLVC) by a 13-5 margin to pull away for the match-clinching win.

After recording 19 kills and a career-best 17 digs in Friday's win over Truman State, Abby Renshaw delivered another double-double against the Peacocks with a team-leading 14 kills to go along with 10 digs. Jacy Bray also posted a double-double -- her 13th of the season -- with 30 assists and 14 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Drury led nearly start to finish in the first set, snapping a 1-1 tie by claiming eight consecutive points; Taylor Wood and Renshaw led the way with three kills apiece during the critical run.
  • The Panthers extended the margin to as many as 14 points (19-5) as part of a stretch that saw DU win 18 of 22 points in the eventual 25-17 victory.
  • Upper Iowa led by a point early in the second before Drury unleashed an 8-2 spurt, led by two more kills from Wood.
  • DU stretched its advantage to 18-13 -- its largest of the set to that point -- before the Peacocks closed the gap to two points with a 5-2 run.
  • But a pair of UIU errors, a Reagan Baade service ace and a Renshaw kill helped lock up the 25-19 decision for the Panthers, who hit .400 as a club in the second set.
  • Renshaw paced the red-hot Drury offense with six kills and a .556 hitting percentage in the second stanza.
  • The Panthers overcame a 5-3 UIU lead in the third, thanks to a stifling defensive effort that limited the Peacocks to a match-low .077 hitting percentage for the set.
  • A Peacock attack error sparked the decisive 13-5 scoring run for Drury, which took the lead for good on a service error, before Chaney Barth and Renshaw delivered two kills each to fuel the momentum-swinging stretch.
  • DU led by as many as six (16-10), before UIU trimmed the deficit to 20-17 late in the set.
  • The Panthers put the match on ice by winning the final five points with the help of four UIU errors.

NOTABLES

  • Drury improved to 4-1 all-time vs. the Peacocks, including a perfect 3-0 mark against UIU in GLVC contests.
  • With the victory, DU matched its 2025 season win total (17), as well as its GLVC season total of victories from a year ago (7).
  • The Panthers also hiked their home record to 7-2 in 2026.
  • Drury's five-match conference win streak marks its longest since a seven-game GLVC streak in 2019 (Sept. 27-Oct. 12).
  • Bray logged her 13th double-double of the season -- and third in a row; the junior setter registered her fifth straight 30+ assist performance and 17th overall this season.
  • Renshaw notched her eighth double of the season and finished the weekend with a team-leading 33 kills (4.71 per set) and a .342 hitting percentage; she also logged 27 digs (3.86 per set) over DU's two victories.
  • Skylar Hilton added five kills on .333 hitting, as well as four blocks to finish the weekend with 12 total blocks.
  • Wood finished with seven kills and two blocks, while Barth chipped in with six kills and a .353 hitting effort.
  • Amelia White turned in a team-best 15 digs, while Lucy Hafer added a pair of aces for Drury.
QUOTABLE
"We had another solid day spreading our offense," Drury head coach Kelly Richardson said. "It was another big day for Abby (Renshaw), brining in some big kills on the front end while remaining consistent on the back row. It was just a really great defensive effort today by everybody. We executed the game plan very well and it was very important for us, when we had leads, to finish sets, so I'm very proud how we finished today."

UP NEXT
Drury will conclude its three-match home stand with a non-conference contest against Pittsburg State Tuesday (Oct. 24) eveing (6 p.m.) at O'Reilly Family Event Center.
