Top-Ranked Men's Swimming and Diving Turns in Record-Setting Debut at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. — Sparked by five pool record-breaking efforts and nine overall first-place performances, Drury men's swimming and diving kicked off its 2026-27 season with a convincing 141-64 win over Missouri S&T at S&T Pool at Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

Drury, ranked No. 1 in the CSCAA's Preseason NCAA Division II Dual Meet Poll, rode individual victories by Ivan Adamchuk (100 Back), Austin Metzler (1000 Free), Belhassen Ben Miled (200 IM), Fran Miodrag (100 Breast), Kostas Vaiciunas (200 Free and 500 Free) and Yuri Cabral (50 Free) to its first dual win of the season. Adamchuk set the Missouri S&T Pool record in the 100 Back, while Vaiciunas eclipsed the previous pool records in both the 200 and 500 Free. Additionally, Cabral shattered the pool mark in the 50 Free, as well as the 100 Free as part of the Panthers' 400 Free Relay performance.

Additionally, the Panthers claimed individual wins in seven of the evening's nine events, as well as both relay competitions (400 Free and 400 Medley).

DRURY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Metzler (9:32.43) picked up the win in the 1000 Free, with Matheus Siniscalchi (9:38.74) placing second.
  • In his first collegiate competition as a Panther, Vaiciunas notched a victory in the 200 Free with the first of his two record-breaking swims of 1:38.03, as fellow DU freshmen Vasil Tushev (1:39.64) took silver.
  • The Panthers swept the top three finishes in the 50 Free, paced by Cabral's pool record 19.87 performance, with two more freshmen, Francesco Galluzzi (20.69) and Miodrag (21.33) placing second and third, respectively.
  • DU also swept the top three spots in the 200 IM, led by Ben Miled's first-place effort of 1:49.60, with Adamchuk (1:51.53) taking second and Jaime Gomez-Guillamon (1:52.61) finishing third.
  • Max Hagl's second-place performance of 49.69 led the Panthers in the 100 Fly, and Lucas Mendes Alvares (46.39) paced DU with a second-place effort in the 100 Free as well.
  • Adamchuk claimed the win in the 100 Back with his swim of 47.76, followed by Evaldas Babakinas (49.23) in second.
  • Vaiciunas (4:29.71) notched his second victory and record-breaking effort of the evening, this time in the 500 Free, with Tushev (4:35.60) once again finishing second.
  • Miodrag (55.36) capped a standout debut with a win in the 100 Breast, edging fellow Panther Elliot Weber, who placed second with a time of 56.53.
  • The Panthers 400 Medley Relay team of Adamchuk, Miodrag, Weber and Cabral captured the first of two relay wins for Drury with a time of 3:20.84.
  • DU also wrapped up a victory in the 400 Free Relay, as Cabral, Alvares, Danny Molloy and Hagl delivered the first-place effort of 3:05.11 to conclude the meet, as Cabral's leadoff split of 43.69 eclipsed the S&T Pool record for the 100 Free.
LOOKING AHEAD
Drury swimming and diving will make its first home appearance of the 2026-27 campaign at Breech Pool on Oct. 30-31, when the Panthers host the Drury Invitational.
