RICHMOND, Ky. – Gaige Lewis' record-breaking third round led Drury to an eighth-place finish at the Findlay Spring Invitational in Richmond, Kentucky.
The event took place at Boone's Trace National Golf Club from March 23 to 24. The 72 par is 6,749 yards in distance. The field featured 20 NCAA Division II programs, 19 of which represent the Midwest region in 54 holes.
The host, No. 46 Findlay, won the event, shooting 30-under par as a team. Second and third place went to two GLVC schools, No. 35 Missouri St.-Louis (-13) and No. 42 Missouri S&T (-5). Drury's seven-over par performance was the third best of the seven GLVC teams in attendance. The Panthers finished in eighth place, climbing three spots on the final day of competition.
Drury was led by
Gaige Lewis, who shot four under in the three-round event. Lewis' third round moved him up 40 spots as he shot an eight-under (64), a program single-round record, to finish tied for eighth.
Ellton Bostrom finished one under and tied for 16th. Missouri S&T's Rizq Adam Rohizam (-15) ran away with first place. The next closest finisher was Findlay's Cahle Roth (-9) and Missouri-St. Louis' Logan Mayo (-7).
HIGHLIGHTS
- As a team, Drury shot 283 in the third round. It is tied for the seventh-lowest round in program history.
- The Panthers shot 289 in the first round, marking the 28th time in program history that they have shot a 289 or lower.
- Gaige Lewis broke the single-round record at Drury in the third round, shooting 64. It is two strokes better than the now-second-best round in program history.
- Lewis jumped 40 spots from the first day to the second day, the largest jump of any individual in the field.
- Lewis shot, on average, 4.5 strokes per par five, the third best in the field.
- Ellton Bostrom was one under. It was his fourth career tournament under-par, the third most in program history, tied with Craig Stefureak.
- Bostrom averaged 3.87 strokes on par fours, eighth best of all individuals.
- Jaxon Bailey shot one under in the third round to finish tied for 41.
- On par-fives, Drury shot seven-under par, sixth best in the field.
- Bostrom and Lewis each had one eagle in the tournament.
