Lewis Claims GLVC Individual Title; Panthers Advance to Semifinals

PERU, Ind. - Gaige Lewis won Drury men's golf's first-ever individual Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) title on Thursday (April 23) at the Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, Indiana.
 
The tournament featured all 13 GLVC men's golf programs and 77 players. The course played 6,887 yards and is a par-72. Three rounds were played in stroke play, with the top four teams advancing to Friday's medal/match play tournament.
 
Missouri S&T (-6) was the highest finishing team in the field. The Miners will face Indianapolis (+23) in the semifinal match-play round. Drury (+6) finished third behind Missouri-St. Louis (+1). The Panthers and Tritons will be the second semifinal match.
 
Gaige Lewis (-6) was the highest finishing individual. Lewis bested UMSL's Trigg Lindahl (-5) by a single stroke. Cole Kmoyati (-2) of Missouri S&T was the bronze medalist. Ellton Bostrom (E) finished tied for fourth with Li Kasule (Missouri S&T).
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • The win for Gaige Lewis was the program's first-ever GLVC Individual Title, and only the program's second-ever individual conference title; Bryce Wassersleben won the 2003 Heartland Conference title.
  • With Lewis finishing three under par, he moved to third in program history with his fifth career tournament under par.
  • Ellton Bostrom (E) finished tied for fourth, earning GLVC All-Tournament Team with Lewis.
  • Bostrom shot a 70 in the final round to move up three spots.
  • Lewis (3.93) and Bostrom (3.97) ranked first and second in average score on par fours throughout the event.
  • On par fives, Lewis averaged 4.67 strokes. Zach Carter (4.83) and Jaxon Bailey (4.83) each also shot below par on par fives.
  • Kal Kolar had Drury's lone eagle throughout the tournament.
  • Gaige Lewis recorded a field-best 16 birdies. He was closely followed by his teammate, Ellton Bostrom, with 13.
  • As a team, Drury averaged 4.97 strokes per par five.
  • The Panthers totaled 61 birdies and 169 pars.
  • This is only the second time in program history that Drury has advanced to the semifinals. The only other time was the 2017 season, where Drury lost in the finals to Bellarmine 5-0 after beating Indianapolis 3-2.
  • The Panthers have missed the semifinal by one spot for the past three seasons.

"Each player sets goals before the season, and all 14 of our guys had the goal of making match play," head coach Bryan Daniels said following the third round. "It was a fantastic team effort. Gaige and Ellton had amazing finishes, and tomorrow is going to be fun."

UP NEXT
Drury advances to Medal/Match Play against Missouri-St. Louis on Friday (April 24). Tee times are set for 8 am. The winner will advance to the championship round against either Missouri S&T or Indianapolis.
