Drury’s GLVC Tournament Run Ends Against UMSL in Semifinals

PERU, Ind. – Drury men's golf run at the GLVC Tournament came to an end against second-seeded Missouri-St. Louis in the semifinals, 3-2. The Tritons will advance to the GLVC Finals to face Missouri S&T.
 
The first group of Andrew Bristow and Ben Berger was controlled by Berger from the second hole. Berger ended the round five up to give UMSL a one-match advantage.
 
Ellton Bostrom faced off with Logan Mayo in the second group. Mayo held a two-stroke lead into the 12th hole of the match. Three straight bogeys from Mayo put Bostrom one up with three holes to play. The difference in the second group was a double bogey from Bostrom on the 16th hole of the match, giving Mayo back the lead. Mayo held onto the lead for the last two holes to give UMSL the two-match lead.
 
The third pairing of Zach Carter and Trigg Lindahl was tied through the first eight holes. Lindahl took the ninth hole to go up one. The 11th hole, Lindahl birdied and Carter bogeyed to put Lindahl up three. Carter bounced back with a birdie to tighten it to a two-stroke difference. Entering the 17th hole, Carter trailed by two. On the 17th, Lindahl bogeyed to make it a one-stroke difference into the final hole. Both Carter and Lindahl parred the final hole to clinch the win for UMSL and go up 3-0 as a team.
 
Jaxon Bailey was one up the entire first nine of group four on Leo Baudry. Baudry birdied the tenth hole to tie it back up. Five bogeys on the final seven holes from Baudry gave Bailey the three-stroke advantage for Drury's first match win of the semifinal.
 
The GLVC Individual champion, Gaige Lewis, closed the day for Drury in the fifth match against Daniel Solavera. After five holes, Solavera was one up. A birdie on the seventh hole from Lewis and a bogey from Solavera gave Lewis a two-stroke advantage. The lead was cut to one on the ninth hole until the 12th hole. Solavera recorded back-to-back double bogeys to put Lewis up five. The lead was cut to four on the 17th hole, but Lewis pulled out the four-stroke win for Drury's second point.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • Out of all four teams in the semifinal, Drury had the best strokes per par five, averaging 4.75.
  • The Panthers had 60 pars, the most of any team in the semifinals.
  • Ellton Bostrom had the lowest average strokes per par three of all four teams. Bostrom averaged 2.75 strokes. Bostrom also led the field with 15 pars.
  • Jaxon Bailey, Gaige Lewis, and Zach Carter each averaged 4.50 strokes per par five.
  • The appearance in the semifinal was the Panthers' second ever, first since 2017. In the 2017 appearance, Drury beat Indianapolis to advance to the championship before falling to Bellarmine.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Drury will now wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II regional tournament. The selection day is scheduled for April 26.
