KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Drury men's soccer came back to win its first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) match of the season, downing Truman State, 3-1, Saturday night.
David Huang got the action started early, with a low shot in the fourth minute, forcing an early save from Truman State goalkeeper Owen Robben.
Steen Voller continued creating chances for the Panthers and had his first shot of the game in the 12th minute.
A turnover in Drury's defensive third allowed Truman State's Jacob Panagos to chip a shot into the Panthers' net, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the 17th minute. Drury responded right away, with three quick shots from Huang,
Caua Nascimento, and
Mason Platts over the next three minutes. The Panthers finally broke through in the 31st minute, as
Lui Bull tapped a ball through to
Parker Jusseaume, who found the equalizer. Both teams fought for more chances before heading into halftime even at 1-1.
Drury opened the second half with an early chance in the 52nd minute.
Gui Maia combined with Huang, who hit a first-time shot past the goalkeeper to give the Panthers a 2-1 advantage. Drury kept its foot on the gas, creating six more opportunities before the 66th minute, when
Parker Jusseaume played a long ball to Huang, who cut inside and curled a shot past Robben from the edge of the box, putting Drury ahead 3-1.
The Panthers continued to control the match after going ahead by two and did not concede a shot in the second half until the 73rd minute. Truman State had a late chance in the 84th minute, but
Ben Barnett stepped up to maintain the two-goal advantage. Drury closed out the game, earning a 3-1 win in its GLVC opener.
