No. 14 Panthers Open GLVC Play With 79-63 Victory At Missouri S&T

ROLLA - Kameron Bundy led three Panthers in double-figures with 26 points and No. 14 Drury rolled to a 79-63 victory over Missouri Science and Technology in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams Saturday night at Billy Key Court.

Cameron Adams added 21 points - including 15 after halftime - as the Panthers improved to 6-1 on the season heading into a break for final exams. Drury will return to action December 18-19 in Las Vegas in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic, where they'll face Cal State-San Bernadino and nationally fourth-ranked Tarleton State at the South Point Hotel and Casino.

Drury led 39-30 at the half, hitting just 42 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes (14 of 33) but heated up to make 10 of 18 shots and 18 of 22 free throws after the halftime break to pull away and improve to 19-0 against the Miners since the teams joined the GLVC in 2005.

"I'd like to say thanks to our cheerleaders NO. 1 and the fans that made the trip and gave us some energy and took time out from their busy schedules to come up and support our guys," Drury coach Steve Hesser said.  "In spots tonight we did some really nice things."

Mike Nwelue had 12 points for the Panthers, who forced 26 Miner turnovers and held S&T to 37-percent shooting (7 of 19) in the second half.

"S and T wants to get you into a frantic pace and they were able to do that at times," Hesser said. "They're not going to quit, and we knew that. So I'm proud of our guys. It was a good win for us, and now we just need to get back and continue to improve. We've got a lot of things we can get a lot better at."

Freshman guard Trevor Clay had his best game as a Panther with four points and a team-high six rebounds in 20 minutes of action, providing another ball-handler against S&T's defensive pressure.

Desmond Buerge had 14 points and Zach Ellis added 12 points for the Miners (5-2), who were off to their best start since the 2003-04 season.
