The Drury volleyball team extended their winning streak to three with a 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference sweep of William Jewell at the O'Reilly Family Event Center on Saturday.
Drury is now (8-3, 3-3 GLVC) and William Jewell falls to 2-10 overall and 1-5 GLVC.Â
Drury claimed the match victory by scores of 25-21,25-19 and 25-15, hitting .356 in the third set.
Leading the way for the Panthers were
Sara Borneman who hit .556 with five kills no errors on nine attacks and
Laynie Timmons who posted a .533 hitting mark with nine kills and one error on 15 attacks and added three block assists.Â
BJ Specht had a team high 12 kills and
Bridget Justis had a team high 18 digs.
"Both Laynie and Chloe, I felt like, did a great job today," Drury coach
Jenifer Bahner said. "They were being aggresive on their attacking and moving the ball around. In volleyball, being able to minimize errors is very important, and when both only had an error each, that is really helping our team and keeps us from beating themselves.
"I think Sara was able to contribute in the third set and I was happy to see her step in and execute the way she did. I felt like Bridget had a good defensive night. I think she knows the game very well and she reads the hitters well, so for her to be able to put herself into a position to add 18 digs to perform her role very well as the libero."
The Cardinals were led by Christina Pratt who finished with a .529 hitting percentage and 10 kills with one error on her 17 attacks. Drury outhit the Cardinals .228 to .109 for the match.
The Panthers will hit the road next week for three key GLVC matches beginning Tuesday at Missouri S&T in a 7 p.m. start, then going to Maryville on Friday at 7 and ending on Saturday vs. Missouri-St. Louis in a 3 p.m. match.
