Drury and Rockhurst will resume their long-time rivalry on Thursday, when the Panthers visit Kansas City to take on the Hawks in a 7:30 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference tipoff at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse.
Coach
Steve Hesser's Panthers (9-4, 3-2 in the GLVC) will be looking to bounce back from their first home court loss in over two years, after a 62-58 setback on Saturday to No. 6 Bellarmine marked Drury's first loss at the O'Reilly Family Event Center since January 5, 2012, a span of 32 consecutive victories.
They'll be taking on a Rockhurst team that's 4-9 overall and 0-5 in GLVC play. The Hawks have lost five straight, and haven't tasted victory since a 48-47 win over Washburn on December 13 at Mason-Halpin.
Dominique Washington, a 6-6 junior transfer from Kansas City Community College, averages 11.0 points and Russell Burns, a 6-5 graduate student, adds 8.8 points and a team-leading 5.4 rebounds to pace Coach Bill O'Connor's Hawks, who are shooting just 39 percent as a team and are last in the GLVC in points per game (66.3).
Junior guard
Kameron Bundy averages 17.1 points per game to lead the Panthers, while senior forward
Cameron Adams adds 16.6 points and senior forward
Mike Nwelue contributes 12.2 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds.Â
Drury leads the all-time series with Rockhurst 64-44, with the Panthers having won 104-69 in Springfield last season and 77-73 in overtime in Kansas City in the rematch last February, when in the latter, the Panthers rallied from an 18-point deficit with 11 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
The Panthers have claimed seven straight in the series since falling 83-80 at Rockhurst on January 3, 2011.
