No. 15 Lady Panthers Down Southern Indiana 64-54 At The O'

Annie Armstrong scored 17 points and Addy Roller added 15 as No. 15 Drury picked up a 64-54 victory over Southern Indiana in a matchup of Great Lakes Valley Conference unbeatens Thursday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Drury moves to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the GLVC with its seventh straight victory, while USI fell to 10-3 and 2-1.

The Lady Panthers built a 37-23 halftime cushion and weathered a run by the Screaming Eagles to pick up their 19th victory in their last 21 games at The O'.

"This is a really good USI team," Drury coach Molly Miller said. "Probably the best post duo we'll see, with Hackert and O'Keefe, so I was very proud of the girls for our defensive effort, especially on those two."

Sanayika Shields added nine points and eight rebounds for the Lady Panthers, who were outrebounded 37-27 by USI.

Anna Hackert had 12 points before fouling out to lead the Screaming Eagles, who received 11 points and 10 rebounds from Kaydie Grooms and 10 points from Tanner Marcum. Mary O'Keefe, a 6-0 junior, was held to one point and went 0-for-6 from the field as she combined with Hacker for a 4-for-13 shooting night with just 13 total points.

Armstrong was 3 for 5 from 3-point range and added seven rebounds and five assists in her 35 minutes of work. Armstrong, the nation's leading FT shooter at 97 percent, made both her tosses at the line and is now 44 of 45 at the stripe this season.

"We need Annie to be aggressive ... I think she had started to defer things a little bit offensively in the last few games," Miller said. "When you're Annie Armstrong, you've got the green light ... and I think she took advantage of that tonight."

The Lady Panthers return to action at The O' Saturday when they play host to Bellarmine in a 1 p.m. GLVC tipoff. As was the case with Thursday's game, it will be another "Educator Appreciation Day," with all area teachers and school admininstrators - and their families - at any level admitted for free when they present a valid ID at the ticket window. The ticket is also good for the showdown between the Bellarmine and Drury men afterward.
