CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - Drury repeated as champions of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Swim & Dive Championships, picking up several more victories and rolling to the titles for a second straight year Saturday night at the Crawfordsville Aquatics Center.
The DU women finished with 1,008 points to easily outdistance second-place Truman State (769.5), with Indianapolis finishing third (510).
In the men's competition, the Panthers amassed 834 points to finish ahead of runner-up Missouri S&T (608.5), with Indianapolis in third at 584.5 points.
Saturday night was much of the same for coach
Brian Reynolds' squads, with the Panthers both delivering winners and tremendous depth to lock away major points.
Allie Reynolds captured the 1650 Free in the late afternoon to get things started for the DU women, who also got victories from
Katya Rudenko in the 200 Back,
Wen Xu in the 100 Free (in a GLVC-record 49.83), Lucie Jolley in the 200 Breast and
Gretchen Stein in the 200 Fly before the Drury squad of Janice Poon, Xu,
Wai Ting Yu and
Kay Gieseke took top honors in the 400 Free.
The DU men got Saturday wins from
Jordi Montseny in the 200 Back (in a GLVC-record 1:46.88),
Stanislav Kuzmin in the 200 Fly (GLVC-record 1:47.80) and the 400 Free Relay foursome of
Daniel Rzadkowski,
Rodrigo Caceres,
Sean Feher and
Luka Matacin.
While shut out on the men's awards, Drury was well-represented in the women's post-meet ceremonies. Vera Johannson was named Freshman of the Year, Rebekkah Laupp the Diver of the Year and
Wen Xu was named Swimmer of the Year.
The Panther squads as a whole are idle until they'll defend their NCAA-II national titles March 11-14 in Indianapolis, Ind. The Drury men are the 10-time defending national champions, while the DU women have won five of the last six national titles.
