Panthers Knock Down 12 Treys, Defeat Illinois Springfield 70-55

Drury made a season-high 12 3-pointers and the Panthers went on to claim a 70-55 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Illinois Springfield Thursday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Kameron Bundy had six treys as part of his 24-point night as the Panthers improved to 15-5 overall and took over sole possession of first place - with Truman State's loss at Bellarmine - in the GLVC West with a 9-3 mark.

John Caraballo had his most productive game as a Panther, scoring 10 points (on 4-for-6 shooting) and adding six rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes for the Panthers, who built a 37-24 halftime lead that grew as high as 24 points early in the second half.

"I'm proud of Big John," Drury coach Steve Hesser said. "He played probably his most minutes and did a nice job on the glass and physically battling inside with (Dylan) Sparkman, who's a load ... that ought to give (John) some confidence."

The Panthers made 12 of 28 3-pointers (43 percent), with Bundy's 6-for-12 effort marking the first time since the graduation of former All-America guard Alex Hall that a DU player had made a half-dozen treys in a contest.

Drury made 26 of 55 shots (47 percent) from the field, while UIS finished at 46 percent (20 of 44). The Prairie Stars dug themselves in part due to 12 first-half turnovers (out of their 16 for the game).

"We did some better things tonight and got some stops," Hesser said. "We've got to understand that when we've got a lead ... of course, we haven't had a lead in so long, we didn't know how to play.

"February is a month for shining everything up and improving and doing things a lot better. We have a lot of things we can become more consistent with ... we do really good things on both ends of the floor in spots, but anything that's any good has continuity and consistency.

"We've got to reach down and make that commitment to be more consistent."

Drury will play the fourth of a four-game homestand on Saturday, playing host to McKendree in a 3:15 p.m. tipoff on "The Courts/The FieldHouse Youth Sports Day." All kids who wear a team uniform or t-shirt from any sport will not only be admitted free, but their parents will pay just $1 admission each. The day will a post-game autograph party with both the Lady Panthers and Panthers and a "Knockout" competition for boys and girls in grades 1-6.
