The nationally 19th-ranked Drury Lady Panthers will seek to push their winning streak to six straight when they play host to McKendree in a 1 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference tipoff Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
It's "The Courts/The FieldHouse Youth Sports Day" at The O', with all kids admitted for free and those wearing sports t-shirts or jerseys from any team, any sport allowing their parents to get in for just $1 each. The festivities include poster-signing parties with both the Lady Panthers and Panthers, prize drawings and a post-game "Knockout" competition for boys and girls in grades 1-6, as well as halftime games showcasing players from both The Courts and The FieldHouse in Springfield.
Coach
Molly Miller's Lady Panthers have been one of the hottest teams in the nation in NCAA-II, winners of 14 of their last 15 games to get to 17-3 overall and 11-1 in the GLVC, good for a three-game lead over second-place Quincy in the West.
McKendree is 2-18 overall and 1-11 in the GLVC after Thursday's 84-44 loss at Missouri S&T.Â
Caty Ponce, a 5-6 senior, averages 12.4 points to lead three Bearcats scoring in double-figures. Gabrielle Williams, a 6-1 sophomore, adds 10.7 points and a team-leading 6.3 rebounds for coach Melissa Ringhausen's squad.Â
Drury coasted to an 82-46 victory over Illinois Springfield Thursday night at The O', racing off to a 50-20 lead at halftime boosted by a 7-for-10 effort from 3-point range as a team in the half.
Alice Heinzler scored 14 points and
Breana Baker added 11 points, eight rebounds, two rebounds and two steals, both off the bench, to lead the Lady Panthers as Miller was able to substitute liberally early and often, with no starter playing more than 17 minutes.
Annie Armstrong averages 14.6 points to lead the Lady Panthers and is the nation's top free-throw shooter at .959 percent (70 of 73).
Sanayika Shields adds 11.4 points and 8.9 rebounds, while
Addy Roller contributes 10.4 points.
Drury leads the all-time series with McKendree 2-0, including a 99-73 victory in Lebanon, Ill., last season.
