Panthers Rally For 2-1 GLVC Soccer Win Over Rockhurst

Drury broke through with two goals in the final 12 minutes to rally past Rockhurst for a 2-1 victory in the Panthers' Great Lakes Valley Conference home opener Sunday afternoon at Harrison Stadium in the Curry Sports Complex.

Gabbe Millot's header goal off a Ciara O'Brien assist with just 15 seconds remaining proved to be the difference, as the Panthers improved to 2-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the GLVC.

Rockhurst fell to 1-1-3 and 1-1-0.

After a scoreless first half, the Hawks struck first when Courtney Silberberg scored her second goal of the season, off a header from six yards out, to give Rockhurst a 1-0 advantage just 1:28 into the second half.

It stayed that way until Kerri Morris found the back of the net off a rebound (Emily Cline assist) at 78:07 to knot the score at 1.

A match that appeared to be headed for OT ended at regulation when Millot tallied her first collegiate goal.

"What a great game ... back and forth, and I thought we showed a lot of fight after going down a goal," Drury coach Alf Bilbao said. "We kept working and we were rewarded when Gabbe took it upon herself to beat the two defenders to the ball for the winner.

"That's a big result against a very good Rockhurst team."

Drury outshot Rockhurst 6-2 in the second half to trail 9-8 in shots for the contest. Panthers' keeper Tina Haberberger had four saves while Rockhurst goalie Ali Wallner finished with one.

The Panthers will hit the GLVC road next weekend with matches at Bellarmine on Friday in Louisville, Ky., and Southern Indiana on Sunday in Evansville.
