SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A short-handed Drury team stayed within striking distance of Missouri-St. Louis but the Tritons held off the Panthers for a 3-1 win on Sunday at Harrison Stadium in Springfield.
UMSL improved to 6-2 overall and in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Drury fell to 3-6-1 and 1-6-1 in the league.
Drury was without both goalkeepers after Tina Haberberger was issued a red card in Friday's game and Gabrielle Klingaman returned home for family emergency.
Gabbe Millot, normally a midfielder, played goal for the Panthers and saw 20 shots and made five saves. The Tritons scored in two minutes into the game on a goal by McKayla Harder but Drury held them off of the board for the rest of the first half.
UMSL took a 2-0 lead in the 78th minute on a goal by Emily Mosier before Drury pulled back within a goal of the lead less than a minute later when Madeline Mueller scored her first collegiate goal. The Tritons took a two-goal back 16 seconds later, though, on Rose Crabtree's goal to put USML ahead 3-1.
Drury is on the road for their next game. The Panthers are at Illinois-Springfield on Friday for a 5 p.m.
