Panthers pull away in 4th set for 3-1 win over Missouri S&T

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury pulled away from Missouri S&T in the fourth set for a 3-1 win over the Miners on Tuesday night at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

The Panthers improved to 11-5 and 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Missouri S&T dropped to 5-10 and 2-5 in the league.

Drury won the first two sets, 26-24 and 25-20. The Miners rallied to win the third set 25-20 to force a fourth set. With the scored tied at 15-15 in the fourth set, Drury reeled off 10 of the next 11 points to seal the win. Freshman Anika Swoboda served nine straight points for the Panthers during the run.

"I was really proud of Anika," said Drury head coach Jenifer Bahner. "We've asked her to work on her serve and tonight she got S&T out of their system, got us going and really contributed to us being able to finish that fourth set.

Emmalee Chrest led the Panthers with 14 kills while Bentley Mara added 12. Brooke Antenen added 31 assists and McKenna Poynter came up with 24 digs.

"I thought Emmalee had a really good night," said Bahner. "We've been working with her to mix her attack up and tonight I thought she did that. She found some deep corners, she went down the line a few times and really stepped up when we needed her to."

Carson Talley led Missouri S&T with 18 kills while Alexis White had 37 assists and four aces.

Drury is home against on Friday when they host William Jewell. Game time is 7 p.m. at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
