EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Drury had their 2016 season end in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament with a 3-1 loss to Truman State on Friday at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria, Illinois.
The Panthers could not climb out of an early hole and, despite nearly pulling even, lost the first set 25-23. The Bulldogs won the second set 25-23 but Drury got back in the match with a 25-22 win in the third set.
Drury owned a 17-15 lead in the fourth when Truman State went on a decisive run. The Bulldogs claimed six of the next eight points and finished the match with a 25-21 win in the set.
Senior
Brooke Antenen ended her Drury career with a triple-double as she had 18 kills, 21 assists and 18 digs. It marked the 11
th triple-double of the year for the Naperville, Illinois native, a total that leads the NCAA-II level. Drury's other senior,
McKenna Poynter, had 31 digs in the game and ended the year with 659, third most ever at Drury in a single season.
Truman State, the second place finisher in the GLVC West Division, will advance to the GLVC semifinals with a 16-16 record and play the winner of the Lewis vs. Quincy quarterfinal match.
The Panthers end the season with a 20-12 record. With last season's finish at 21-11, it marks Drury's first back-to-back 20-win seasons since they became an NCAA-II program and their first since 1992 and 1993.
