Rogers State Takes Pair From DU Softball

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Drury softball Panthers fell twice in a non-conference pair 7-3 and 6-4 at Rogers State on Wednesday.

Drury is now (7-15) and Rogers State moves to 10-18.

Rogers State opened by scoring four runs on four hits for an early advantage.  Grace Hargadon singled to score Kaelie Smith in the Panther third to cut the lead to 4-1.  The Hillcats added a three runs on four hits in the fourth on RBI singles and a sacrifice bunt to push their lead to 7-1. 
Abbey LeJong hit a two RBI single to right that scored Hargadon and Kelley Conway to cut the Rogers State lead to 7-3 in the top of the fifth but could draw no closer.

Smith was 3-for-4 with three hits and scored a run to pace the Panthers with Hargadon and Weissenbach each having two hits.  Drury and Rogers State each tallied 10 hits in the contest.  Katelyn Gamble and Stephanie Schivally each had two hits for Rogers State.

Shelby Weissenbach (5-7) received the loss for DU with Mayra Helguera (1-3) earning the win for the Hillcats.

In the nightcap Kari Hillenburg stole home in the first inning to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.  LeJong had an RBI walk to score Weissenbach in the second to make it 2-0 Panthers.  The Hillcats got on the board in the second inning on an RBI sacrifice bunt and tied it up with an RBI triple in the third. 

Rogers State took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of RBI singles up the middle for a 4-2 lead.  Smith homered and Karlie Peck came home on a passed ball to tie it up in the fifth.

The Hillcats claimed the win by scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-4 victory. 

Weissenbach and Alyssa Sargent each had two hits for Drury who had eight and Rogers State finished with twelve.

Rachel Jones (5-5) earned the win and Weissenbach (5-8) received the loss.

Up next for the Drury softball Panthers will be GLVC action at Thompson Field with Saint Joseph's on Saturday and Indianapolis on Sunday both days starting at noon.
