WESTFIELD, Ind. –
John Goodrich posted six hits, five RBIs and scored three runs on the day to lead Drury to a 13-2 victory over Cedarville in the opener and a 5-4 win in the nightcap over Alderson Broaddus at the Midwest Regional Crossover on Saturday.
Drury improved to 8-12 while Cedarville drops to 3-9 and Alderson Broaddus is now 7-7.
In the opener vs. Cedarville Drury went up 4-0 after two innings scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. Goodrich posted an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 after the first inning. The Panthers added a pair of second inning runs on an RBI triple by Conner Pomering and an RBI single by
Ryan Colombo.
The Panthers scored four runs on four hits to go up 8-0 after the fourth inning.
Dylan Bradshaw doubled to score Pomering in the fourth to extend the Drury lead to 5-0. Then Goodrich added an RBI double and
Conner Wilson smashed a two run homer to make it 8-0.
The Panther offense continued to add runs in the fifth scoring three runs on a Bradshaw sacrifice fly, a wild pitch that allowed
Spencer Wilmes to score and an RBI groundout by
Ryan Wadkins. Colombo singled to score
Devan O'Bryan and
Christian Magno in the sixth to make it 13-0.
Cedarville scored on an RBI single in the ninth and an RBI groundout for their two runs.
Goodrich, Magno, O'Bryan, Pomering and Wadkins each had two hits to help Drury to a 13 hit total.
Sterling Sharp (1-3) earned the win and allowed just two hits in eight innings of action for the Panthers and Josh Kneeland (1-2) got the loss for Cedarville.
In the nightcap Drury scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Goodrich to score Colombo and an RBI fielders choice by Magno to plate Goodrich. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the seventh when Alderson Broaddus scored three runs on three hits to take a 3-2 lead. Goodrich hit a two RBI single to plate Colombo and Bradshaw and put the Panthers on top 4-3 in the seventh.
Alderson Broaddus scored on an RBI single in the top of the eighth to tie it up at 4 but it would be Bradshaw who would come through for the Panthers with a double to score
Grant Thimesch in the bottom of the eighth to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead and the win.
Alderson Broaddus finished with 10 hits and Drury had nine led by Goodrich who had four hits, three RBIs and scored a run.
Ryan Wedermyer (1-0) got the win for Drury and Larkey (0-2) received the loss for Alderson Broaddus.
Drury will continue play at the Midwest Regional Crossover Showcase vs. Grand Valley State tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (Central Standard Time).
