Drury Softball Falls Twice to Southwest Baptist Monday

The Drury softball Panthers suffered a pair of non-conference losses 4-1 and 5-2 to Southwest Baptist at Thompson Field on Monday.

Drury is now 6-10 and Southwest Baptist is 10-12.

In the opener the game was tied at 1 after Southwest Baptist had an RBI single in the second and Kaelie Smith tied it up with an RBI single for the Panthers in the third.  The Bearcats went back on top in the fourth scoring on an error and tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh on a pair of errors.

Drury outhit the Bearcats by an 8-4 advantage with Smith and Kari Hillenburg each recording two hits.

Shelby Weissenbach (5-5) received the loss with Kacey Ayers (7-6) earning the win for the Bearcats.

In the nightcap the Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the opening inning on an RBI triple and added a run in the top of the third on an RBI single.  Chantal Oelrich got the Panthers on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to right.  SBU added a pair of runs in the seventh inning to extend to extend the lead to 5-1.  Smith singled to plate Abbey LeJong in the seventh but the Panthers could draw no closer. 

Drury outhit SBU 7-5 in the nightcap led by Hillenburg who had two hits.

Jessica Kjeldgaard (0-5) received the loss with Hunter Middleton (3-6) earning the win for the Bearcats.

Drury will open GLVC play on Saturday when the travel to Bellarmine for an 11 a.m. doubleheader in Louisville.
