Missouri Western Takes Pair From Drury Baseball Monday

Missouri Western racked up 33 hits and hit six homers to sweep a non-conference pair from the Drury baseball Panthers 15-4 and 14-3 on Monday at Meador Park.

Drury is now 4-8 and Missouri Western improved to 9-6. 

The Griffons scored two runs on three hits in the first inning and added four runs on four hits in the third to make it 6-0.  Western added four runs on three hits for a 10-0 lead after 4 innings.  The Griffons added three in the fifth, one in the sixth and one in the seventh. 

For the Panthers Dylan Bradshaw singled to plate Spencer Wilmes, Ryan Kayhill had an RBI fielders choice and John Goodrich had an RBI single to give Drury three runs on four hits in the sixth.  Devan O'Bryan homered in the seventh for the Panthers fourth run. 

Western tallied 17 hits led by Cosimo Cannella with four and the Panthers finished with six hits in the seven inning opener.
Evan Jones (2-0) earned the win and Brian Quasebarth (0-1) received the loss.

In the nightcap both teams scored in the opening inning Western on an RBI sacrifice fly and Drury on a Conner Wilson RBI single to score Bradshaw.  The Griffons added a pair of runs on second inning RBI doubles for a 3-1 lead.   Missouri Western stretched their lead to 4-1 in the third with an RBI single.  Ryan Colombo had an RBI sacrifice fly in the Panther third to score Bradshaw. 

The Griffons offensive continued to find ways to score as they added four runs on three hits in the fourth for an 8-2 lead. The Griffons added three more runs in the fifth before O'Bryan scored for Drury on an error.   Missouri Western would add three runs on four hits in the seventh to cap off the 14-3 win.

Canella had three hits, three runs and two RBIs to pace the Griffons. 

Austin Sims (1-2) received the loss with Jared Floyd (1-0) earned the win for Missouri Western.

Drury will host Southern Indiana on Friday at Meador Park starting at 4 p.m.
