Southern Indiana took a pair of non-conference games 2-0 and 9-3 over the Drury baseball Panthers at Meador Park on Friday.
Drury is now 4-10 and Southern Indiana improved to 10-4.
In the opener USI scored two runs on three hits in the opening inning and were able to hold Drury at bay for the remainder of the contest as pitcher Lucas Barnett (3-1) earned the shutout victory.Â
Drury outhit the Screaming Eagles by a 7-6 tally with
Ryan Wadkins having two hits.
Ryan Colombo (2-2) received the loss for DU.
In the nightcap USI started the same way they did in the opener by scoring two runs in the opening inning.  The Screaming Eagles tacked on four runs on seven hits in the fourth inning to stretch their lead to 6-0. USI added runs in the fifth and sixth to make it an 8-0.Â
Drury got on the board in the sixth on an RBI single by
Conner Wilson to plate
Devan O'Bryan and an RBI groundout by
Christian Magno scored Colombo and cut the USI lead to 8-2. Wilson scored in the Panther eighth on a USI balk. USI added their final run on an RBI single to make it a 9-3 final.
Sam Griggs and Ryan Bertrum added three hits each in the Screaming Eagles 16 hit output. Colombo led DU with three hits and Wilson and Goodrich each added two hits.
Alex Holder (2-1) earned the win and
Sterling Sharp (0-3) received the loss for the Panthers.
Drury will continue their three game series vs. Southern Indiana with a 1 p.m. game tomorrow at Meador Park.
