Jessica Kjeldgaard allowed just two hits in the nightcap and
Grace Hargadon and
Alyssa Sargent each had three hits and combined for three runs and three RBIs to help the Drury softball Panthers earn a non-conference split at Southwest Baptist on Tuesday winning the nightcap 4-0 after falling 5-4 in the opener.
Drury is now 13-29 overall and Southwest Baptist is 18-30.
In the nightcap Drury scored two runs in the fifth on a two RBI single by
Kelley Conway to plate Sargent and
Karlie Peck then added a pair of runs in the sixth on two run homer by Sargent to score
Kaelie Smith for a 4-0 final.
Sargent led DU with three hits, two runs and two RBIs with Drury getting five hits while Kjeldgaard (3-16) earned the win in an excellent outing allowing just two hits in a complete game with six strikeouts.
In the opener Southwest Baptist got on the board first in the opening inning on a Drury error but the Panthers went on top 2-1 on a two RBI single by Hargadon in the Panther third to plate
Rachael Michaelis and
Kari Hillenburg. The Bearcats tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Kayley Hansen.
Shelby Weissenbach scored on a fielders choice in the Panther fourth to put the Panthers back on top 3-2 and Hargadon hit a solo shot in the Panther sixth to extend the lead to 4-2.
Southwest Baptist rallied to score three runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 5-4 win with an RBI single up the middle by Dana Graves to plate Kori Hillenburg for a Bearcat win.
Hargadon had three hits, a run and an RBI in the opener with Drury having six hits and SBU finished with eight hits. Rachel Ray had three hits, scored two runs and had an RBI.
Weissenbach (9-14) received the loss and Kacey Ayers (10-11) earned the win for Southwest Baptist.
Up next for the Drury softball Panthers will be GLVC road action at McKendree at noon on Saturday.
