LEBANON, Ill. - The Drury softball Panthers swept a GLVC road pair Saturday at McKendree with Drury winning the opener 6-1 and shutting out McKendree in the nightcap 1-0.
Drury is now 15-29 overall and 8-16 in the GLVC and McKendree is 21-23 overall and 13-11 in GLVC play.
In the opener McKendree scored in the second inning on a Panther wild pitch to the first run of the contest. Drury tied it up in the third on an RBI error on a ball hit by
Abbey LeJong to score
Miki Andrus.
Drury broke out of that tie and took a 3-1 lead in the fifth when a two RBI double by
Grace Hargadon plated
Rachael Michaelis and
Kari Hillenburg.
Drury added three runs in the seventh inning, those coming on an RBI sacrifice by Michaelis, an RBI single by
Kaelie Smith and an RBI double by
Alyssa Sargent to score
Chantal Oelrich.
Hillenburg led DU with three hits and two runs with Drury outhitting McKendree nine to five.
Shelby Weissenbach (10-14) earned the win with six strikeouts and Holly Magre (12-9) received the loss and posted 10 K's for the Bearcats. McKendree committed three errors and Drury had one.
In the nightcap neither team had a hit until the fifth inning when Oelrich homered for the games only run for a Drury victory. Both teams had just two hits each with Andrus adding a double to go along with Oelrich's homer.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (4-15) earned the win for Drury with Maci Ingram (6-8) getting the loss for McKendree.
Up next for the Drury softball Panthers will be GLVC road action at Illinois-Springfield at noon on Sunday.
