Illinois-Springfield Sweeps DU Softball in GLVC Play Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -  Illinois-Springfield posted wins of 3-2 and 1-0 over the Drury softball Panthers to earn a GLVC sweep Sunday at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex.

Drury is now 15-31 overall and 8-18 in the GLVC and Illinois-Springfield is now 22-24 overall and 12-14 in the GLVC.

In the opener an RBI single by Miki Andrus scored Chantal Oelrich in the second for the first run of the contest before the Prairie Starts answered with an RBI single of their own followed by an RBI hit by pitch to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second.

In the Drury fifth when Kaelie Smith tied it up a 2-2 with an RBI single to score Kari Hillenburg. UIS would claim the win in their half of the fifth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Amanda Gosbeth and score Haley Inman.

Both teams finished with five hits, Smith had two hits and an RBI for Drury and UIS was led by Alexa McClaughry with two.

Shelby Weissenbach (10-15) received the loss for Drury with Jaycee Craver (14-11) getting the win for UIS.

In the nightcap the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when Rachel Goff got the Prairie Stars on the board with an RBI single to score Ashli King.  Drury loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh but couldn't cross a run.

Madi Torry and King each had two hits to lead UIS who had six hits.  Drury had four hits in the game.

Jessica Kjeldgaard (4-16) received the loss and Craver earned her second win of the day.

Up next for the Drury softball Panthers will be a GLVC contest on Saturday, April 23 at Thompson Field vs. Wisconsin-Parkside.
