Jessica Kjeldgaard allowed just one hit and posted eight strikeouts in the nightcap to help the Drury softball Panthers earn a GLVC sweep over Wisconsin-Parkside 4-3 in the opener and 4-0 in the nightcap at Strikeout Cancer Day Saturday at Thompson Field.
Drury is now 17-31 overall and 10-18 in the GLVC and Wisconsin-Parkside falls to 8-39 overall and 5-23 in the GLVC.
In the opener
Shelby Weissenbach singled to score
Chantal Oelrich and
Alyssa Sargent came in to score on the throw in the second to get Drury on the board and make it a 2-0 Panther lead. An RBI single by
Miki Andrus scored Sargent and an error allowed Weissenbach to score in the fourth to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.
The Rangers cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth scoring three runs on three hits.
Andrus had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers who finished with five hits. The Rangers had seven hits in the contest with Kellie Fenza getting two.
Weissenbach (11-15) earned the win for Drury and Kjeldgaard earned her third save of the year. Carly Dundee (6-20) received the loss for the Rangers.
In the nightcap
Kaelie Smith tripled to right to plate Andrus and
Kari Hillenburg in the Panther third. Weissenbach sealed the win with a two run homer in the sixth to left for a 4-0 Panther win.
Kjeldgaard (5-16) earned the win and had eight strikeouts in an excellent outing. Amber Ramos (1-11) received the loss for the Rangers.
Up next for the Drury softball Panthers will host Lewis for senior day at Thompson Field tomorrow at noon.
