The Drury softball Panthers split a GLVC pair vs. William Jewell winning the opener 1-0 before falling 9-4 in the nightcap at Thompson Field on Saturday.
Drury is now 10-22, 4-10 GLVC and William Jewell 13-17 overall and 5-9 in the GLVC.
In the opener the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when
Rachael Michaelis hit a ball to shortstop that was bobbled to allow
Shelby Weissenbach to score for a 1-0 Drury victory.
Weissenbach (8-11) got the shutout win with six strikeouts and Shelby McGraw (8-10) received the loss.
Jewell finished with four hits led by Brooke Bernard with two hits and Drury finished with three hits.
In the nightcap Drury struck in the opening inning when Weissenbach singled to left to plate
Kaelie Smith in a four hit first inning. Jewell went on top 3-1 in the second scoring three runs on six hits and one error.
Michaelis pulled the Panthers to within a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI double to left center to score
Kari Hillenburg then Smith followed with an RBI single to score Michaelis to tie it up.
Jewell responded by scoring four runs on four hits and an error in the third to go up 7-3.
Grace Hargadon singled to plate Hillenburg in the Panther sixth the cut the Cardinals lead to 7-4. Bernard hit a two run homer in the top of the seventh to cap off the 9-4 victory.
Smith had three hits the pace the Panthers and Weissenbach and
Chantal Oelrich each had two hits each. Drury finished with 12 hits and Jewell had 15.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (2-12) got the loss and Taylor Friesen (2-4) got the win for the Cardinals.
The Drury softball Panthers continue GLVC play on the road at Rockhurst on Sunday with action set for a noon start.
