TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Drury won their season opener Thursday night with a 2-0 win at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
The Panthers got on the board just before halftime on a goal by Antoine Vial. The native of Sete, France not only gave Drury a 1-0 lead but the goal was the first collegiate career goal for the sophomore.
Drury took a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute of play on a Charles Guelly goal with an assist from Ben Bruce. Guelly also had an assist on Vial's goal in the first half.
Goalkeeper Nicolas Hein made six saves for Drury in the win.
The Riverhawks had a 17-14 advantage in shots but the Panthers managed eight shots on goal to Northeastern State's six.
Drury starts the season 1-0 while dropping Northeastern State to 0-1.
The Panthers host West Texas A&M on Saturday in Drury's home opener. Game time is 5 p.m. at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
