QUINCY, Ill. – It took overtime to give Drury their first defeat of the season but a Quincy goal 2:25 into the sudden-death overtime period stuck the Panthers with a 4-3 loss on Sunday in Quincy, Illinois.
The loss dropped 16th ranked Drury to 7-1 and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy improved to 4-2-2 and 3-2-1 in the GLVC.
Drury owned a 1-0 lead at halftime and had a 3-1 lead with 15 minutes left in regulation. Goals that came two minutes apart by Charles Guelly, his fifth of the year, and David Cross, his fourth of the season, broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Panthers a two-goal advantage.
Quincy tied the game late in regulation as Eddie Plesha scored two goals in two minutes getting his team within a goal in the 84th minute, then tying it in the 86th minute.
Plesha then assisted on the game-winner in overtime as Pete Condol scored giving the Hawks the win. Plesha had a hand in all four Quincy goals with two goals and two assists in the game.
Guelly had a goal and an assist for Drury.
Quincy outshot Drury 20-12 and put 13 on goal to the Panthers eight.
Sunday's game ends a string of four straight road games for the Drury. The Panthers return for a home game Friday against Maryville. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
