SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A red card against Drury goalkeeper Tina Haberberger in the 89th minute led to a free kick and subsequent goal that proved to the be difference in a 1-0 win for Maryville over the Panthers on Friday night at Harrison Stadium.
Haberberger came out of the goal and collided with a Saints player and was issued a red card with 1:15 left in regulation. The play resulted in a free kick from Allison Verville against new Drury goalie Gabrielle Klingaman, who saw her first action of the season. Verville's shot deflected off of the cross bar, then off Klingaman and into the net for the game's only goal.
Maryville outshot the Panthers 14-8 with six shots on goal to Drury's three.
Maryville improved to 4-5 and 3-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury dropped to 3-5-1 and 1-5-1 in the GLVC.
The Panthers are back at home Sunday afternoon to play Missouri-St. Louis. Game time is noon at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
