Nationally ranked Mizzou squads defeat Panthers swim teams

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Drury Panthers swimming and diving teams took on nationally ranked teams from the Missouri University and fell in duals on Friday night in Columbia.
 
The Tigers women's team, ranked 13th in NCAA-I, defeated Drury 145-83 while Mizzou's men's team, ranked 15th nationally, downed the Panthers 139-92.
 
Wen Xu and Bailee Nunn won two events for the Drury women's team. Xu took first in the 50 freestyle (23.57) and 100 freestyle (51.52). Nunn, a freshman from Marshfield, won the 200 individual medley (2:02.42) and the 200 breaststroke (2:15.01). The Panthers women's team also won and took second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.04).
 
Men's swimmer Joan Casanovas won a pair of events. The Spaniard, who joined the Panthers during the semester break, captured the 1000 breaststroke (9:11.55) and the 500 freestyle (4:22.37). Casanovas was also part of Drury's win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:02.76)
 
Drury swimming and diving is idle until the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on February 8th in Crawfordsville, Ind.
