SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Sixth-ranked Lewis earned a road win over Drury with a 3-0 win over the Panthers at the O'Reilly Family Event Center on Friday.
The Flyers improved to 21-2 and 10-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Panthers dropped to 17-9 and 6-7 in the league.
Lewis won the first set 25-16, took the second 25-23 and pulled away late in the third set for a 25-21 win.
"We started strong in the first set but then faded at the end. Then I thought we really competed in the second and third sets," said Drury head coach
Jenifer Bahner. "We just struggled to finish. The message to our team was that we're going to come back tomorrow and keep that same fight-and-compete mentality from the beginning and then when it comes time to push at the end, we've got to be able to finish."
Bentley Mara led Drury with nine kills while
Bree Schmidt had 26 digs.
Kendra Sater contributed 28 assists.
Elizabeth Hyland had 16 kills for Lewis. The victory gave Lewis head coach Lorelee Smith her 300
th career win.
The Panthers are home again on Saturday as they host Wisconsin-Parkside. Game time is at 3 p.m. at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
