EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southern Indiana bounced back from a first set loss and fought off two match points to pull off a 3-2 win over Drury on Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Indiana.
The Panthers won the first set 25-15 but the Screaming Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the match winning the second set 25-22 and the third 27-25. Drury forced a fifth set with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
The Panthers had a 12-8 lead in the fifth set and had two match points before Southern Indiana rallied to pick up four consecutive points to win 16-14.
Drury dropped their third straight game and fell to 14-5 and 6-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Southern Indiana snapped a six-game losing streak with the win and improved to 4-13 and 2-7 in the league.
Bentley Mara led Drury with a game-high 23 kills. It marked a new career high for the junior from Harrison, Arkansas.
Kendra Sater had 60 assists, tying her with the 12
th most in a single game in program history.
Southern Indiana's Elexis Coleman had 21 kills and seven blocks to lead her team. The Screaming Eagles had 13 blocks in the match.
Drury is idle until Friday, Oct. 13 when they play in the Midwest Regional Crossover tournament at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Illinois. Times and opponents will be announced early next week.
