SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Rockhurst pulled away from Drury in each set on their way to a 3-0 win over the Panthers on Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
The Hawks, who lead the West Division of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, improved to 24-6 and 12-4 in the league. Drury dropped to 18-11 and 7-9 in the conference.
The Panthers led for most of the first set and had a 20-18 lead until Rockhurst went on a 7-2 run to win the set 25-22. Drury battled back from a 12-5 deficit in the second set to take a 19-18 lead but the Hawks closed out the set to win 25-23. Rockhurst closed out the match winning eight of the last 10 points of the third set for a 25-19 victory.
"I thought we came out with some good energy and I adored the way we fought back," said Drury head coach
Jenifer Bahner. "But we made too many errors throughout the entire match and when we got the end of each set, we let down."
Sarah Kite led the Panthers with a game-high 14 kills.
Kendra Sater had 41 assists while Bree Schmidt had 24 digs.
Rockhurst had eight blocks to Drury's one and Karli Reichert had 3.5 blocks to go with 11 kills to lead the Hawks.
Saturday's game was Senior Day for the Panthers who honored senior Kylie Pfaff before the game. Drury is on the road for their final two regular season games as they play at Truman State on Tuesday and are at William Jewell on Friday night.
