Drury rallies again and gets a 2-1 OT win over Truman State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury Panthers managed to pull off another game of last-minute heroics as they came from behind for a 2-1 overtime win over Truman State at the Lake Country Soccer Complex in Springfield on Friday.

Trailing 1-0 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Ben Bruce converted on a penalty kick for the Panthers that tied the game at 1-1 and helped force the game into overtime. The goal was the third of the season for the native of Ullapool, Scotland.

Just three and half minutes into OT, Pierre Villez's corner kick set up a header by freshman Joshua Lewis-Evans that found the net for the game-winning goal. It marked the second game-winning goal of the season for Lewis-Evans, whose other came on Sept. 8 on a goal with less than three minutes remaining that gave the Panthers a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Parkside.

The win was Drury's third this season when they scored in the final five minutes to win a game. The Panthers improved to 4-3 and 3-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Truman State fell to 2-6 and 1-4 in the league.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Trevor Kaufman in the first half. Kaufman, who notched his fourth goal of the season, beat two Panthers defenders racing downfield and placed a shot past Nic Helin. The goal kept Truman State in front until the final five minutes of regulation.

Despite trailing most of the game, Drury still had a 15-6 advantage in shots but only seven were on goal to Truman State's four that were on the net.

The Panthers are home again on Sunday when they host William Jewell. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
