SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
Sarah Kite, a junior from Plano, Texas, led a balanced offensive attack with 16 kills to put Drury over UMSL 3-1 in a GLVC contest Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. The Panthers improved to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Panthers edged past the Tritons 25-23 in the opening set, then made it a 2-0 lead while when they hit .323 in a 25-15 second set win. UMSL pulled out the third set 25-21 to stay in the match, but Drury claimed the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth.
UMSL fell to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC with the loss.
Kite led the Panthers with 16 kills and was one of four Panthers to reach double figures in kills.
Faith Alwardt, a freshman from Lebanon, hit .429 with 10 kills, and committed just one error on 21 swings.
Kendra Sater added 52 assists in the four sets while
Lily Hunter recorded a team-high 3.5 blocks.
Maddy Russell led the Tritons with 15 kills and hit .324.
Drury returns to conference play on Tuesday when they host William Jewell. Game time is 7 p.m. in the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
