KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Drury Panthers took down 25
th ranked Rockhurst 3-0 at Mason-Halpin Fieldhouse in Kansas City on Friday to win their fifth straight match and pick up their 11
th victory in their last 12 games.
The Panthers improved to 13-2 and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Hawks fell a game back in the loss column to Drury in the GLVC West Division and their record went to 11-4 and 3-2 in the league.
Even through Drury won all three sets, two of them went beyond 25 points. The Panthers took the first set 26-24, won the second 25-23, and outlasted Rockhurst for a 31-29 win in the third. It marks the first 3-0 win for Drury at Rockhurst in program history. The Panthers were just 13-42 all-time against the Hawks entering Friday's game.
Drury featured a balanced attack as
Bentley Mara had 13 kills while
Sarah Kite added 12,
Emmalee Chrest had 10 and
Faith Alwardt chipped in with 9.
Kendra Sater had 48 assists and had 11 digs while
Bree Schmidt led DU in digs with 15. Chrest also had 11 digs while Kite also contributed 10.
The Panthers are back at home on Saturday afternoon as they host Truman State. Game time is 3 p.m. at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
