SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Faith Branson's goal in the 76th minute lifted Truman State to a 1-0 win over Drury on Friday afternoon at Harrison Stadium/Curry Sports Complex.
The Bulldogs improved to 9-2 and 5-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers fell to 0-10-1 and 0-7 in the league.
The game was scoreless until late in the second half when Chance Douglass got free on the right side of the box and found Branson cutting to the net. The goal was Branson's fourth of the season and broke the deadlock with 13:22 remaining.
The Panthers countered in the closing minutes with a pair of scoring chances. Following a corner kick with two minutes remaining, a scramble in front of the net nearly pushed the ball in before Truman State goalkeeper Beth Hopwood smothered it. A minute later, Hopwood made a lunging save on a 30-yard strike by
Gabbe Millot.
Hopwood had three saves in the shutout, and the Bulldogs had 18 shots in the game to Drury's nine. Panthers goalie
Sarah Franks had six saves in the loss. Millot had six shots to lead Drury.
Drury's next game is Sunday when they travel to Lewis for a 2:30 p.m. game in Romeoville, Illinois.
