Lewis scores late to edge Drury 2-1

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.– Drury struck with an early goal at Lewis, but the Flyers battled back and scored with 3:18 remaining in regulation to defeat the Panthers 2-1 on Sunday in Romeoville, Illinois.
 
The Flyers improved to 7-3-2 and 6-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury fell to 0-11-1 and 0-8 in the league.
 
The Panthers took a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game as senior Uxoa Bertiz scored her first goal of the season. Lewis tied the game midway through the first half on Karly Soy's goal, and the game remained deadlocked until the closing minutes.

Kailey Parnello, who ranks second in the GLVC in goals scored, fired home a shot that was her eighth goal of the year and gave the Flyers a 2-1 win. Parnello was credited with 10 shots and eight shots on goal in the game.
 
Drury goalkeeper Sarah Franks had eight saves while Brinn Cooper's three shots, all on goal, led the Panthers.
 
Drury is back at home on Friday when they host Illinois Springfield at 5 p.m. at Harrison Stadium/Curry Sports Complex.
