OZARK, Mo.- The Drury Panthers split a doubleheader with Missouri S&T on Saturday at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark winning game one 7-4 but were held to two hits in a 4-1 loss in the second game.
Â
Drury's record moved to 20-16 and 11-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Miners went to 16-16 and 7-7 in the league.
Â
The Panthers extended their winning streak to 10 games as they scored five late runs to win the first game 7-4. Drury broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI-single by K.K. Daniel and scored another run in the inning when
Clayton Engel came home from third base on a balk. Drury scored three more runs in the eighth as
Caleb Essick hit an RBI single and Daniel capped the Panthers scoring driving in two more with a base-hit.
Â
"K.K. came through for us in some big spots," said Drury head coach
Scott Nasby. "That's what seniors do. Seniors step up big when you need them."
Â
Daniel went 3 for 5 and matched a season-high with four runs batted in.
Â
Austin Simms (6-2) got the win for Drury going 7.1 innings allowing six hits, three runs and three walks with three strikeouts.
Â
Missouri S&T starting pitcher Dan Borek (5-4) held the Panthers to just two hits as the Miners won game two 4-1. Borek fired a complete game going seven innings allowing one run and no walks with four strikeouts.
Â
"He controlled both sides of the plate," said Nasby. "He has a pretty good slider, and we didn't hit many barrels (of the bat) against him."
Â
The Miners scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings. Drury scored their lone run in the fourth inning.
Brant Schaffitzel hit a lead-off double, and Daniel's single drove him in with two outs. Those were the only hits of the game for the Panthers as Borek faced just two batters over the minimum in the win.
Â
The four-game series continues on Monday with a doubleheader that starts at noon in Rolla.
