Drury's top dozen moments from 2017-18 - No. 8: DU women's tennis wins GLVC title

During the next several weeks, we will continue to reveal our Drury Dozen – the top 12 moments from 2017-18 as voted on by members of the Drury University athletics media relations team that covered a variety of DU sports throughout the year.

The list on this countdown does not reflect the most significant moments from the year, although the biggest games/events certainly played a part in our decision. Ultimately, these were our favorite moments from the previous year and the ones that we will likely always associate with the 2017-18 sports season.

#8 – Drury women's tennis wins GLVC title

The Drury women's tennis team won the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship with a 5-2 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis on April 22 at the Cooper Tennis Complex. It was the first conference title since 2014 for the Panthers women's team and their eighth GLVC crown in 13 years.

This championship would be especially sweet for this team that had lost in the GLVC finals each of the previous three seasons including a heart-breaking 5-4 defeat to the hands of Indianapolis the year before.

Following the championship match, head coach Jarrod Smith was named the GLVC Coach of the Year and his team would eventually march to the third round of the NCAA-II national tournament and finish the season with a 19-2 record.
