EVANSVILLE, Ind.– Three first half goals helped Southern Indiana get past Drury 3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference season opener at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana on Friday.
The Screaming Eagles evened their overall record to 2-2-1, and they started GLVC play with a win to go to 1-0 in the conference. The Panthers fell to 0-4-1 and 0-1 in the league.
Southern Indiana got on the board 15 minutes into the game with a goal from Olivia Wilde. Lyndsee Monac gave the Screaming Eagles a 2-0 lead 11 minutes later and Rachel Gray, who had a goal and an assist in the game, put Southern Indiana three goals ahead scoring in the 40th minute.
Drury got back in the game just before halftime as
Kaley Rottinghaus scored her first goal of the season with 29 seconds left in the first half.
Southern Indiana held off the Panthers from there as neither team scored after the intermission. The Panthers limited the Screaming Eagles to six shots and only one on goal in the second half.
Gabbe Millot had five shots with two on goal for Drury while
Sarah Franks recorded six saves in the loss.
The Panthers continue their road trip on Sunday as they take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a conference match starting at noon.
