Miners strike twice in second half in 3-1 win over Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Missouri S&T's Austin Parks scored twice in the second half to lift the Miners to a 3-1 win over Drury on Sunday at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.

Missouri S&T picked up their first win of the year to improve to 1-6 and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Panthers fell to 0-7-1 and 0-4 in the league.

Drury tied the game midway through the first half on a goal from Alex Esquivel in the 29th minute. The freshman from Sedalia scored the first goal of his collegiate career with an assist from Jamie O'Brien.

The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the 73rd minute when Austin Parks got a breakaway and scored on a rebound from his own shot that bounced of Panthers goalkeeper Nico Helin. Parks then put the game away 11 minutes later with his second goal of the contest and his fifth of the season giving the Miners a 3-1 lead.

Missouri S&T had a 16-14 advantage in shots. O'Brien led the Panthers with five shots in the game while Parks had four for the Miners.

Drury is home again on Friday, Sept. 28 when they host McKendree for a 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Country Soccer Complex.
