Own goal gives McKendree double OT win over DU men's soccer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– McKendree walked away with a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Drury men's soccer team on Friday at Lake Country.  Drury scored an own goal in the 108th minute of the second overtime to allow the Bearcats the win.

McKendree, who is now tied with Southern Indiana for the GLVC lead, improved to 6-1-1 and 4-0-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  The Panthers fell to 0-8-1 and 0-5 in the league.

McKendree's Ariel Cardozo scored in the 64th minute of the second half to lift the Bearcats to a 1-0 lead.  With time ticking away, Joao Machado scored on a free kick with just three minutes left in regulation to force overtime.

Drury had a good chance in the early moments of the first OT when Danny O'Brien put one on goal, but Alvaro Cortazar made a diving save in the air to keep McKendree even.

Drury out shot the Bearcats 12-11 with both teams posting three shots on goal.  Eddie Davis had five of those shots for McKendree and also added as assist.

Drury is home again on Sunday, Sept. 30 when they host William Jewell for a 2:30 p.m. at Harrison Stadium/The Curry Sports Complex.
