Late Indianapolis goal spoils Drury's upset bid

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– A late Indianapolis goal spoiled Drury's upset bid as the Greyhounds escaped Harrison Stadium with a 2-1 win over the Panthers on Sunday.

Drury controlled the first 20 minutes getting off three shots, but Indianapolis grabbed the lead as Maria Herrero converted on a penalty kick in the 29th minute. The Panthers evened the score just before halftime as MacKenzie Serrano fed a pass to Christine Harpe, who got through multiple defenders and put in her first goal of the year.

Drury had two scoring chances midway through the second half on a pair of corner kicks. Harpe put a shot on net in the 60th minute, and two minutes later, Serrano blasted a shot that went just wide of the left post.

The Greyhounds then seized the lead and the game on Hannah Gamble's goal with 5:55 remaining.

Indianapolis improved to 9-3-1 and 7-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Drury dropped to 1-12-1 and 1-10.

Sunday's game was Senior Day for the Panthers as the team honored four-year letter winners Emma Bunselmeyer, Molly Wheeler, Kayla Day, and Abbie Rademacher.

Drury is on the road for their next game as they travel to Lindenwood on Friday for a 5 pm game in St. Charles, Missouri.
