Panthers rally falls short in 2-1 loss to McKendree

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury's late rally fell short as McKendree handed the Panthers a 2-1 loss on Friday at Harrison Stadium/Curry Sports Complex on Friday.

Drury fell to 5-4 and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while the Bearcats went to 4-1-2 and 4-0-2 in the league.

McKendree broke a scoreless tie late in the first half as Lukas Vaiciunas scored his first goal on the season putting in a shot through traffic.

The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead in the 48th minute as James Stone converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the year.

Drury then made a late push and was awarded a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Sophomore Jamie O'Brien fired in his seventh goal of the year and gave the Panthers life down the stretch. It also extended O'Brien's goal-scoring streak to four straight games.

McKendree held off Drury in the final minutes as a pair of shots from John Clout in the last 10 minutes missed above the crossbar.

The Panthers remain home on Sunday when they host Southern Indiana for a 2:30 pm game at Harrison Stadium/Curry Sports Complex.
