Wratten hits .565 to help DU volleyball to 3-0 sweep over UIS

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury volleyball Panthers earned a 3-0 sweep over Illinois-Springfield in Great Lakes Valley Conference play as the Panthers captured the match by scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-21 on Friday.

Makina Wratten, a sophomore from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma led the Panthers with 14 assists and had just one error in 23 attacks for a .565 clip.  Paige Perry recorded a Panther high 18 digs and freshman Gabby Birmingham added a team best 21 assists.

"Makina played great tonight and connected with sets and is playing better and better as shown by her 14 kills and just one error, and she was a great presence for us at the net, "said Drury head coach Jenifer Bahner.  "Gabby also played very well for us and used setting/hitting to help us as well as being a good attacker/blocker which is great coming from a freshman.  Paige really did a nice job of embracing her role defensively as well and gave us lots of opportunities because of her touches back there.  I am very proud of how we bounced back after our loss at Missouri S&T to earn a sweep over Illinois-Springfield."

Drury moves to 17-12 overall and 11-1 in the GLVC and Illinois-Springfield fell to 17-12 overall and 6-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Drury will host Lewis, the top ranked team in the Midwest Region, on Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center with first serve set for 3 p.m.
