Penalty kicks lift Rockhurst past Panthers

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Rockhurst scored on two penalty kicks to edge Drury 2-1 at Harrison Stadium/Curry Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon in Springfield.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead when Jordan Andrews connected on a penalty kick in the game's 17th minute after the Panthers were called for a handball in the penalty area.

Drury battled back and tied the score in the 52nd minute as sophomore Jamie O'Brien scored his sixth goal of the year while Adem Hamdaoua picked up his third assist in his last two games.

With 8:23 remaining, the Panthers were called for another handball in the box, and Andrews gave his team the lead on the ensuing penalty kick for his second goal of the game and third of the year.

Drury made a late push as Trevor Cairns fired a shot high with 3:34 left in regulation, and a minute later, Hamdaoua blasted a free-kick into the midsection of Hawks goalkeeper Peter Baker who made the save to keep his team in front.

The Panthers fell to 5-3 and 3-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference while Rockhurst evened their record at 3-3-1 and went to 3-2 in the league.

Drury remains home next weekend as they host McKendree on Friday at 7:30 pm in Harrison Stadium/Curry Sports Complex.
