CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.– The Drury men's and women's swimming & diving teams both own slim leads after the first day of competition at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in Crawfordsville, Indiana on Wednesday.
The Drury women's team is in first place with 379 points. Indianapolis is only six points back in second place, while Lindenwood is in third with 313 points.
The DU men's squad three points ahead of Indianapolis for the lead after the first day. Drury has 273 points while the Greyhounds have 270. McKendree is in third with 265.5 points, and Missouri S&T is in fourth with 255.
Women's Highlights
The Panthers won all four events on Wednesday in the first day of competition.
Drury started the Wednesday's finals with a 1-2 finish in the 1,000 Freestyle and received a record-setting performance from senior
Erica Dahlgren. Dahlgren won the event with a time of 9:54.37, breaking her GLVC meeting record from 2018 by more than a second. Sophomore
Allison Weber came in second with a time of 9:59.46.
Senior
Bailee Nunn added another crown to her storied career with a win in the 200 Individual Medley. The Marshfield native swam the event in 2:00.63 to edge teammate
Bec Cross (2:00.93).
The Panthers also got a win in the 50 Free as freshman
Katarzyna Rogowska posted a winning time of 23.10 while
Yasmin Preusse came in third (23.37).
Drury capped Wednesday with a record-setting finish in the 200 Medley Relay.
Laura Pareja,
Bailee Nunn, Kasia Rogowska, and
Yasmin Preusse completed the event in 1:40.45 and broke the league record by .08 seconds that the Panthers previously owned since 2018.
Men's Highlights
Drury's
Andrew Rodriguez set a GLVC record winning the 200 Individual Medley. The sophomore completed the event in 1:47.33, breaking the previous record by .48 seconds, and he finished 1.57 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Junior
Oleksii Khnykin tied for fifth in the 50 Free with a time of 20.28, and the Panthers got an eighth-place from
Lucas Lima in the 1,000 Freestyle with a time of 9:17.20.
The Panthers earned a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.
Caleb Carlson,
Andrea Bergoglio,
Pavel Semochkin, and
Aidan Glynn posted a time of 1:28.14 and came in just behind McKendree and Missouri S&T.
Day two of the GLVC Championships is Thursday, and preliminaries start at 8:45 am (Central). The event continues through Saturday night in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
